Sound familiar? We do it all the time now. We tweet, we update statuses, we check in and we pin. All this is done to share who we are with “the world” and often, we do it with quotes….or shall I say, memes.
I love memes. Not surprising for this quote-pasting-on-the-dorm-room-door girl. They’re all over the place, aren’t they? From Grumpy Cat to the Harlem Shake, from Snarky Willy Wonka, to the Sunrays-through-the-clouds inspirational quotes, for good, bad or indifferent, with memes, we all now have a way to leave our “Kilroy was here” mark.
Businesses can (and do) jump on that fun factor and use memes in marketing and branding. (Think “Hump Day” with Geico and Dos Equis Beer’s “Stay Thirsty”.) Cadbury has been doing it for years with the “Bunny.” (I love the lion’s audition for the role. Laughing out loud right now!).
The key to successful “meming” is timing. You can create your own meme using apps all over the internet or you can design your own original meme, using your own photos. Pay attention to trends and then glom onto the meme train without delay! Make sure your designs are engaging. There are tons of articles on the web to advise when and how to use memes. Who knows? Maybe you’ll win an award for best social media meme. They’re out there you know. We’re getting serious about memes now!
I spend a lot of time networking in person for my design business and I also belong to multiple business groups through social media. It seems the networking entrepreneurs with whom I tend to associate are inspiration junkies like me. We both seek and share inspiration and encouragement for success. I see inspirational memes shared among my entrepreneurial colleagues all the time. (I’m sure you do too.) When I see them, I am transported back in time to my college dorm room door.
Facebook is my dorm room door.
Actually, all social media is. Facebook just happens to be my “drug of choice.”
