Something that I did not expect at the event, and found completely thrilling, was all the book giveaways. I love fantasy novels, and most, if not all of the books on display and given away were fantasy. I was in heaven.
Among the myriad vendor booths at this event, we also came across a booth that had buttons – the kind that have slogans on them. Now I loved this too, because it took me back to my heyday, when I was a young, alternative sweetheart, sporting my big black coat from Pier 1, adorned with a gazillion buttons with unusual and obscure, and sometimes, rebellious images and/or, of course, quotes. The quote in the meme was inspired by one of the buttons that I found here and yes, in my nod to my nostalgia, I purchased.
I love books. I love to read. I prefer fiction to non-fiction, because, especially now, with my hectic schedule, when I have time to sit down and read, I want to be taken away from this world. As a matter of fact, my main criterion for a book to be great – in my estimation – is that it must be physically painful to hear my name called while reading it. I want to be so involved in the story that hearing my name called jerks me out of the world I am visiting.
When it’s a good story, I am indeed a part of everything I read. By the same token, every thing I read, is a part of me as well.
So, here’s my design. I confess, I am a tad nervous about this one. I consider myself to be more of a behind-the-scenes person. I like to make things and events. I love to show them to the world, and yes, I like the praise on a job well done. However, I like the focus to be on the item or event, I create and prefer to hide myself in the shadows. This time, I put me in that which I created – literally. I so wanted to play with the techniques I used in this image. I wanted to conform the text to the topography of a face, and well, with my face, I didn’t need to seek permission. I had fun doing it though. Really, isn’t that what it’s all about?
I guess, I’m a part of this “story” too. Ha!
What do you think? Are you a part of everything you read? What have you read lately that you love? Which to you prefer – fiction or non-fiction? Why?
