Laughter means there’s hope, and hope is a powerful thing.
Just like the sunshine yellow and the sky blue colors I chose for the background colors show, laughter brings virtual sunshine wherever it occurs. I put laughing faces in the background (can you see them?) because we should all have a giggle or guffaw waiting in the wings, ready to make its entrance. (I love PhotoShop!)
Have you ever played the game “Ha?” Everyone playing lines up, it doesn’t matter if it is one behind another or side to side – or everyone could get in a circle. (It is really fun if you are lying on the floor, each with their head lying on another’s belly.) One person starts off saying “ha” and the next person adds a “ha” – “ha ha,” and so on, until someone actually starts laughing. There’s nothing quite like a belly laugh. (Pun fully intended.) Playing this game, one soon sees that even just starting the process can incite laughter.
I know a wonderful woman, who also happens to be named Beth – Beth Majerszky of Simply Be – who knows quite a bit about the benefits of laughter. Beth gave a presentation at a Women’s Conference earlier this year on Laughter Yoga. Yes. Laughter Yoga. According to Wikipedia, “laughter yoga (Hasyayoga) is a practice involving prolonged voluntary laughter. It is based on the belief that voluntary laughter provides the same physiological and psychological benefits as spontaneous laughter.” All I know is that I felt absolutely wonderful after participating in Beth’s presentation. I highly recommend it!
Laughter is good for you. WebMD says it increases your heart rate, oxygenates your blood and burns calories.
So laugh! Every day!
